Faith
Faith is the absolute belief that a deity's power can and will be expressed in the world. As many people worship lesser spirits, it is possible to have Faith in these spirits as well. Faith is measured in Faith Points; only characters who possess the advantage Faith will normally have these. There are two types of Faith Points: permanent and temporary. Permanent Faith Points normally refresh each day and will only rarely be lost. Temporary Faith Points are lost at a rate of one per day, and do not return when used.

Each character with Faith must declare which deity or spirit they follow. Even a member of the Church of the One Truth will have a particular patron; if one is not named, the character follows Erebus. In general, Faith points are used in the same ways regardless of the religion, although specifics may vary. Naturally, there are differences between a deity's capabilities and a spirit's.

Temporary Faith Points are gained through observance of a deity's rituals or performing tasks that please the deity. These rituals will vary among individuals, although most worshippers will follow a consistent set. Characters may take advantages or disadvantages that allow flexibility or restrict the nature of these services. Services to gain Faith Points can only be performed once per day, and the points gained are lost at a rate of one per day.

The Church of the One Truth
The Church of the One Truth was founded by a poor scholar, who received a revelation from the spirit whom he had, until that point, worshiped as a god. The revelation was not complex, but was disturbing to the young man, as it showed him that all the beings he and his fellows worshiped were in reality only the servants of a higher power. In fact, some of these spirits were free creatures, much like man, only older, wiser, and more powerful. The vision showed him the True history of the world, and he recorded this so that it might enlighten all who came after him. This is the Truth the Church is built upon.

The world began in darkness, and in chaos. The only force was the force of Night, which is a fearsome power; but it is also a waiting power. From Night came Erebus, who is the First, and the Highest. Erebus is Lord of the High Heavens, for He was the first to know Himself, and the inheritor of the power of Night.

Erebus knew Himself, and therefore He also knew He was alone. Desiring companionship, He created Umbrus, His Son. Umbrus contained what Erebus knew, which was of Night, Darkness, Gloom, and Destruction. Erebus was not satisfied with this creation, so He worked and labored and created his Daughter, Astris, the Light of Creation. Umbrus was not pleased to be cast aside, and he could not stand to be near His sister.

Erebus was pleased with His new creation, and so he continued, and made Eris, the Land, His second Daughter; and also Nonus, the Sea, His secod Son. Umbrus now was older and mighty, and He swayed Eris and Nonus to His views for awhile. Nonus then saw through His words and left Him, dwelling with His sister Astris. But Eris was seduced by Umbrus, and from their union came the spirits of the inner earth, and many monsters.

Astris continued the creation Her Father had begun, and made a palace of golden light, which we call the Sun. Seeing this, one of the children of Umbrus and Eris left His Father, and came to dwell in the sky, becoming the Moon. Astris made also Fire to serve Her, but He was wild, and traveled through all the realms, even Umbrus', though Umbrus could not stand Him. The union of Astris and Nonus brought forth Air, and the Spirits of the Upper Air.

After a time, Nonus longed for His sister Eris, and He left the Heavens searching for Her. He found Her, and helped Her partially escape Umbrus, though She would not leave completely. But from the union of Eris and Nonus came the Spirits of the Deep Ocean, and all the Spirits of Plants and Animals, and all the Spirits of the Surface, save only a few, such as the Children of Erebus, the Wraiths.

Thus it is that we are all descended from the gods, through Eris and Nonus; and they still nurture us today, and Astris watches over us, for She loves all creation.
