The Continent of Jardaa
Jardaa is the continent to the west of Rhean. It is a land scarred by ancient wars and terrible magics,
a land where good and evil are less clearly defined than in Rhean, a land where little can be trusted.
It is also the place where humanity originated, and much of Rhean can be traced back to Jardaa.
The ancient wars and disasters that raged across Jardaa changed more than the land. Living creatures were altered,
sometimes by accident, and sometimes by design. Today, there are many intelligent races that call Jardaa home.
The following list is not exhaustive by any means:
- Centaurs - These creatures have the lower bodies of horses and the torsos, arms, and heads of humans. They mostly live
as nomadic tribesmen in the north, and both hunt and herd many animals. Some have become traders; others, mercenaries.
- Dwarves (Jardaan) - These are dwarves from Rhean who came here after the first parting. See Dwarves for more information.
- Flinds - Cousins of gnolls, these intelligent and powerful creatures often rule over their lesser kin.
Many flinds are aggressive and prone to cruelty.
- Gnolls - These creatures resemble hyenas, but walk upright and have hands similar to a human's.
Unfortunately, many of them have the dispositions of hyenas as well, and are often bandits and raiders.
These sometimes unite behind a strong leader (often a flind)and can become a serious threat.
- Kobolds - Small, weak creatures, kobolds are found in many areas, skulking on the fringes of communities.
They tend to scavenge or beg from other races, although their high birth rate can allow kobold "armies"
to suddenly appear at times. These large clans are normally short-lived as stronger creatures prey on them.
- Mermen - These creatures live in the coastal waters of the Dragon and Shining Seas. Half man, half fish,
they conduct some trade with the land, but much of their existence is a mystery.
- Minotaurs - These fearsome warriors resemble a huge, somewhat bestial human with a bull's head. Minotaurs live by
arete, the warrior virtues. Honor and valor are all-important. For the most part, minotaurs are semi-nomadic hunters,
selling the trophies of their kills in the cities. They fiercely defend their territory.
Some minotaurs have turned to mercenary work; others have become gladiators; and a few have taken up banditry.
- Orcs - Orcs are normally aggressive, militaristic creatures. Their discipline makes them favored troops,
although their organized tribal bands are considered a threat by most of the human lands. Individually orcs are generally bullies.
- Tabaxi - Tabaxi are the cat-men of the hills and forests. Resembling cats who walk upright,
these creatures tend to live in very loose groups. Many who live in cities have taking up thievery.
- Wemic - Wemic are similar to centaurs, but possess the lower bodies of lions. They are fierce and brave, roaming
the central steppes and plains on a continuing hunt. They are good trackers and scouts; a fair number serve
in these roles in various militaries for a time to secure luxuries for their prides.
- Yuan-ti - The bizarre snake-men of the southern jungles. Although dark things are whispered of their empire
--tales of demon magic and blood sacrifice--the yuan-ti who trade in the north are generally very correct and refined,
possessing only a few snake-like features. Yuan-ti are said to be some of the most powerful sorcerors in Jardaa,
and to know much of the ancient lore that has been lost in the north.
